Keble College at Oxford University Launches Inspiring Inaugural Nabila Walji Photography Prize in Memory of Nabila Walj

Keble College, one of the prestigious colleges at Oxford University, has proudly inaugurated the Nabila Walji Photography Prize as a poignant tribute to the remarkable Nabila Walji. Nabila, a multi-talented individual excelling in writing, photography, and anthropology, left an indelible mark on both her birthplace of Canada and her extensive work in Kenya. Actively involved in youth organizations and community leadership, she dedicated herself to making a positive impact on the world. In commemoration of her inspiring legacy, the Photography Prize was introduced, inviting participants to submit photographs that artfully captured their unique perspectives, revealing the inherent beauty present in even the most ordinary of moments.

The first edition of the Nabila Walji Photography Prize concluded amidst great anticipation during the Hilary Term of 2023. The competition received an overwhelming response, with more than 200 captivating images pouring in from talented photographers. The judging panel faced the challenging task of selecting the most exceptional entries, resulting in the shortlisting of 36 photographs that stood out for their artistic brilliance and ability to evoke a profound emotional response.


Ultimately, it was Alexander Sauer, an accomplished scholar in Statistical Science who emerged as the deserving winner of the inaugural Nabila Walji Photography Prize. Sauer's winning photograph was hailed as a "moment that inspires contemplation," demonstrating his remarkable ability to capture the essence of a scene and evoke a powerful sense of introspection in the viewer. His work exemplified the spirit of the prize, celebrating the beauty and depth that can be found in everyday moments.

Building on the resounding success of the first edition, the anticipation grows for the forthcoming Nabila Walji Prize, scheduled to take place in the Michaelmas Term of 2023.
